Job Description

Apply all types of insulation, mastics, sealants, coatings and jacketing (metal, PVC, canvas, fiberglass cloth, tar paper, tedlar paper) to heating and cooling systems, ductwork, plumbing systems, tanks and vessels in plants, factories, schools, hospitals and office buildings.
Work Scope

Serving Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania with numerous services, including asbestos removal, fireproofing, insulation of mechanical systems with a variety of thermal and frost insulating products.

Apprenticeship Information

Working Conditions

Involves a full day of strenuous physical labor, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, as well as climbing and balancing on scaffolds and ladders.

Apprenticeship Training Period

Four years.
Related Instruction and Method

All four years, apprentices must attend school one night per week, four hours per night (6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). School year consists of 144 hours.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old, have a valid NY State Drivers License and a high school diploma or G.E.D.


Tools

Apprentices must have their own hand tools. Average starter set is approximately $200.

$27.00

Apprentice Wage Progression Schedule

1st year - 50%
2nd year - 60%
3rd year - 70%
4th year - 80%

Estimated Annual Earning

Estimate on 1600 Hours Worked per year could be $43,000.00*

* Estimates are based upon average hours worked, which may vary from year to year.
Fringe Benefits

Health Care, Pension Fund, Annuity and Education Fund Benefits. Benefit eligibility is based on the rules and requirements of each specific fund.

Union Dues

$500 -($250 + $250) is the initiation fee and dues are $2.25 an hour.
