Job Description/Work Scope
Our membership includes bricklayers, cement masons, marble masons, mosaic workers, plasterers, pointer-cleaner-caulkers, stonemasons, terrazzo workers, tile layers, finishers, and allied craftworkers. Our work includes, but is not limited to, the building, constructing, fabricating, erecting, cleaning, maintaining, repairing, renovating, sealing, caulking, waterproofing, acid proofing, application of chemical products to, an all other work to or upon walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, decks, roads, paving and other objects or structural, building or construction components consisting wholly or partially of masonry (viz., brick and other clay products, structural tile, concrete, cement, stone, marble, glass block, terra cotta, castables, and all other natural or artificial masonry units made from any material), tile, mosaics, cement, plaster, terrazzo, plastic, and all forms of substitute materials thereto; the laying, setting, installation or application of all such materials; the preparation of all structures, objects or components to receive such materials; all refractory work; and all work servicing, assisting, or relating to the processes or materials described above from manufacture of the materials through construction and maintenance of the structure or object.

Apprentice Information
Working Conditions
Physical ability to stand and work for long periods of time necessary. Ability to bend frequently, kneel and lift up to 50 lbs. Some work performed on lifts, scaffolds, and ladders. Operation of power tools may be required. Exposure to dust, building materials, and/or chemicals may occur. Safety equipment and proper clothing will be necessary.
Training and Instruction
The Apprenticeship Training Program is designed to be completed in 4 years and requires 5,000 hours of fieldwork to achieve Journeyperson status. 160 hours of classroom training and 1250 work hours is required per year for advancement. Classes are held 40 hours per week for a continuous four-week period.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency (GED) required. Must be at least 18 years of age and must take an aptitude test from the New York State Department of Labor. Reliable transportation is a necessity.
Tools
All tools are provided for the classroom training. The basic tools necessary for work are the responsibility of the apprentice.
Apprentice Wage Progression Schedule
Based on current Journeyperson rate of $28.65 per hour and $17.08 per hour for benefits.
1st year rate- 45%
2nd year rate- 55%
3rd year rate- 65%
4th year rate- 80%
Fringe Benefits
Include Health and Welfare Fund, Annuity, Local Pension, International Pension
Union Dues
Apprentices- $50.00 for initiation plus $12.00 monthly dues; working dues - 4.5% of entire package.
